BASIC LANC REMOTE CONTROL FOR SONY/CANON
Built onto a small clamp that suits a wide range of applications, the 521 uses the LANC protocol adopted by most Sony and Canon Mini DV, and Hi8 cameras.
Controls:-
Power - On/Off from standby.  Record - Stop/Start.  Focus - In/Out.
Zoom - Variable speed In/Out
Zoom wheel direction can be reversed.

PRO LANC REMOTE CONTROL FOR SONY/CANON
 Built onto a small clamp that suits a wide range of applications, the 521Pro uses the LANC protocol adopted by most Sony and Canon Mini DV, and Hi8 cameras.
Controls:-
Power - On/Off from standby.  Record - Stop/Start.  Focus - with the camcorder in MF mode, hold the button down*, camera switches to Auto(*does not work on XL1/s/2 or VX1000), press button again, zoom wheel then focuses In/Out. Zoom - Variable speed In/Out, 3 settings, can be customized to the required zoom speed.
Zoom wheel direction can be reversed.

The 523PRO remote control works with both Sony and Canon LANC-enabled MiniDV and HDV video cameras. The remote control features a record/stop button, a power on/standby button, three different zoom speed control buttons (slow, medium and fast) and a push auto focus button. The zoom wheel can be used to control one of the three preset, maximum zoom speeds or a customisable maximum speed which you can set to exactly the level you want.
The 523 is the only semi-professional video remote system available on the market today that uses a professional type "wheel" zoom for finer adjustment and smoother progressions.

For all zoom speeds except the slowest preset speed, you can choose between progressive zoom speed (the further you rotate the zoom wheel, the faster the zoom) or fixed zoom speed (irrespective of the rotation applied to the wheel, zoom speed remains constant) by pressing the button once (progressive) or twice (fixed). The LED shows you which speed you have selected. To set a "custom" zoom speed, simply hold the zoom speed button until the LED flashes and use the wheel to set your speed. The setting remains in the unit’s memory until you decide to change it. Whether you choose a limited progressive zoom range or a single fixed speed, the features of the 523PRO mean you can easily repeat zooms precisely in subsequent takes of the same shot. The 523PRO also allows you to set left- and right-handed operation by changing zoom wheel direction. The push auto focus button makes it very easy to achieve in focus images when working in manual focus mode. You can also use the manual focus in and out buttons and change the focus direction. 523PRO does not come with any parts to fit to the head, but instead utilizes the pan bar clamp that comes with all Manfrotto 500 series heads.

And finally, the Wake up from standby button ("ON") Your camera manufacturer wisely created this safety feature to protect your camera. VariZoom controls respects this feature and utilizes it to the videographers greatest advantage. The purpose of this critical safety feature is to prevent damage to your cameras tape heads and the tape itself. When a camera is in pause mode the tape is still engaged with the spinning recording heads of the camera. Because the tape is not moving when in pause mode the heads will be spinning in place on the tape. The standby safety mode activates the tape transport to disengage the tape from the recording heads. This, of course, eliminates wear and tear on your camera and your tape.

When National Geographic uses our VariZoom's on their wildlife shots they sometimes wait for hours with the camera in standby mode. When they get ready to shoot again they press our "wake up from stand-by button" and then the tape re-engages the recording heads and remains in pause until the record button is pushed.
